Welcome to the sixth module of this course. This module focuses on the critical role of education, communication, and social engagement in advancing tobacco harm reduction (THR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you should be able to:
- Identify strategies for engaging people who smoke, communities, advocates, leaders, and policymakers in THR communication.
- Adapt education and messaging approaches to different audiences, local contexts, and capacities, using appropriate media and channels.
- Explain how THR can be framed using different narratives (e.g. equity, autonomy, pragmatism) depending on communication goals and audiences.
- Design effective communication materials that counter misinformation, support informed choice, and reflect lived experience.
- Recognise the value of co-creation and participatory communication with nicotine users, advocates, and other stakeholders.
